View more detailsThe forest department and Jungle Lodges and Resorts Ltd. are working together on the Dubare Elephant Camp project. Numerous elephants in this camp are trained by naturalists. To describe the numerous facets of elephant biology, ecology, and history, a qualified naturalist is available. The visitor can engage in a variety of activities involving elephants in addition to seeing and learning about them. About 150 elephants are housed by the Karnataka Forest Department in a number of camps, with Dubare historically being a significant camp. At the Dubare Elephant Camp, the elephants used for the renowned Mysore Dasara were trained. However, now that logging has stopped, the Forest Department is unsure of what to do with all of its elephants. With the exception of a few rides for strange tourists, they (the elephants) have essentially retired. The Forest Department also spends a lot of money on maintaining them and their mahouts. In light of this, Jungle Lodges & Resorts (JLR) came up with the novel idea of using the elephants at Dubare Camp to give visitors "an intimate experience with elephants."
