Lingarajendra constructed the Omkareshwara Temple in 1820 CE, which is devoted to Lord Shiva. It is one of the top tourist destinations in Coorg. It is said that the shivalinga within the temple was transported from Kashi. The monarch allegedly murdered a devoted Brahmin in order to further his political goals. The monarch, however, began to experience nightmares as a result of his terrible act. The King asked a few wise men for their counsel on how to stop having nightmares, and they advised him to construct a temple to Lord Shiva in order to restore his mental tranquility. The monarch took their advice and erected a Shiva lingam at a recently built temple by bringing it from the revered city of Kashi.
The temple was constructed using both Gothic and Islamic architectural traditions. The temple's construction consists of a large central dome and four corner minarets. Intriguing artwork adorn the temple's walls, and panchaloha was used to make the window bars. A copper plaque with the temple's history engraved on it is mounted to the entry door frame.
The distance from Madikeri to Omkareshwara Temple is only 1 kilometer, which is a mere 3 minutes from the city center
