It is advisable to take a cab or your own vehicle from Madikeri to Mandalpatti as the bus service is not yet accessible. One can drive to a certain checkpoint inside the forest and then hike the final 3 miles. There is a watch tower at the summit, where you can see Mandalpatti hills and get a great perspective of Mandalpatti town, and it just takes 30 minutes to get there. From Mandalpatti's base point, one may also rent a vehicle.
