Cauvery Nisargadhama

Cauvery Nisargadhama is a 35-acre island located in the Kaveri river, near Kushalnagar town and 28 km from Madikeri in Coorg, 3 km from Kushalnagar, 7 km from Bylakuppe, 12 km from Dubare Elephant Camp. The Forest Department started working on this eco-tourism initiative in 1988. A hanging rope bridge allows access to the island. It is covered with dense bamboo forests, teak trees, and sandalwood trees. The island's natural beauty, including the river and the forest, may be appreciated by visitors, and it is a fantastic location for a family outing.

The main draws in this region are elephant rides and riverboat trips on the Kaveri. At a few secure locations along the river, visitors are also permitted to enter the water. Additionally, visitors may see the charming rabbit park, the exquisite deer park, and the well-known peacock park.

Accommodation options include guest homes run by the forest department and treetop bamboo bungalows. These cottages make the perfect lodging for everyone, with the River Kaveri running by its sides and the soothing greenery of the forest all around. The cost of a cottage each night is between Rs. 600 and Rs. 1000.

The greatest time to visit this island is between October and April, when the rich foliage of the forest and the resultant coolness of the environment make it the perfect place to visit. It gets really chilly inside the forest during the winter because of the significant drop in temperature. Since the area experiences moderate to severe rains throughout the monsoon season, very few people visit the region. However, the environment is lovely because of the abundant fresh air and vegetation.

Cauvery Nisargadhama is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

For adults and kids, the entrance cost to Cauvery Nisargadhama is INR 10 and INR 5, respectively. Extra fees are charged to visitors for in-park activities like riding elephants and boating. The cost of an elephant ride is INR 25 per person, while the cost of a boat trip is INR 100. The cost of the island's cottages ranges from INR 600 to INR 1,000.
